Lean Six Sigma Yellow Belt Training
Duration: 2 days
Format: In-Person
Best For: Frontline staff
Certification Outcomes: Lead small-scope projects using abridged DMAIC
LSS YB training is a two-day course that provides students with a fundamental understanding of LSS principles. Topics covered include establishing effective improvement teams, understanding the Voice of the Customer, Basic Process Flow Mapping, Voice of Data, basic statistics and implementing the DMAIC (Define, Measure, Analyze, Improve, Control) methodology. The instructor led courses usually include interactive activities so that students can grasp the functions of each phase within the DMAIC process. Candidates who certify at this level are normally used as team members for higher level projects or as support members for higher-level belt projects.
Certified YBs can produce small score projects that do not require heavy statistical intensity yet produce highly effective results that improve localized daily operations and ensure the continuity of process improvement integrity (i.e., Abridged DMAIC).
Instructors for this course are typically Certified LSS Black Belts/Master Black Belts or approved Quality Solutions & Innovations Coordinators who are Certified LSS Black Belts.
Lean Six Sigma Green Belt Training
Duration: 2 weeks (split) + project
Format: In-Person + Coaching
Best For: Emerging Leaders
Certification Outcomes: Lead department-level DMAIC or Kaizen events
LSS GB training is a two-week course. Each education week is generally separated by a three/four-week break to allow belts to digest content and initiate work on their designated LSS GB level project. LSS GBs work under the guidance of the facility Quality Solutions & Innovations Program and are charged with working on complex organizational DMAIC projects or KAIZEN (also referred to as Rapid Process Improvement Workgroups (RPIWs)) events that “move the needle”. Typically, LSS GB projects focus on a single measure or outcome for a specified department/service or as part of a larger cross-functional project under the guidance of a Certified LSS Black Belt or Master Black Belt.
Certified LSS GBs will possess a significant understanding of each element of Lean, Six Sigma, Change Management, Project Management and Statistical concepts. LSS GBs are considered expert at facilitation. Some topics LSS GBs will become proficient in are establishing effective improvement teams, Value Stream Mapping, understanding the voice of the customer, Statistical Process Controls, functional statistics, data interpretation and analysis, developing, selecting, and sustaining solutions as well as implementing the full cadre of DMAIC methodology tools.
Lean Six Sigma Green Belt to Black Belt Transition Training
Duration: 2 weeks (split) + advanced project
Format: In-Person
Best For: High-potential Green Belts
Certification Outcomes: Master complex, cross-functional improvement
The transitional LSS GB to BB course is a two-week supplemental course that completes the education gap for students who have been successfully certified through the LSS GB course and are selected to advance to the LSS BB level. The transition course will greatly expand a candidate’s understanding of LSS principles, statistics, practices, and tools. LSS BBs work under the guidance of the facility Quality Solutions & Innovations Program and are charged with working on only the most complex facility level or cross-functional departmental level projects or KAIZEN events. LSS BBs should be well known to the leadership of the facility. LSS BBs should act as mentors for LSS GB and YBs to advance the culture and knowledge of LSS. Typically, LSS BBs will work on projects that affect the long-term strategic measures or outcomes for the facility.
Instructors for this course will be at the LSS Master Black Belt level or will be Quality Solutions & Innovations Coordinators who are Certified LSS BBs.
Lean Six Sigma Black Belt Training
Duration: 4 weeks
Format: In-Person
Best For: Proven leaders (Green Belt required)
Certification Outcomes: Advanced mastery of Lean Six Sigma & process improvement, deployment & sustainment; equipped for project and event leadership
The Black Belt course is the most advanced Lean Six Sigma Belt level typically seen within a mature Process Improvement organization. Black Belt training is a four-week-long instructor-led course. The Black Belt curriculum can accommodate students with no prior LSS experience; however, it is highly recommended and desirable that candidates who are attending this course have completed a legitimate Lean Six Sigma Green Belt course and possess some statistical and mathematical understanding. Candidates for the Lean Six Sigma Black Belt course should be screened by the organization’s leadership to ensure a candidate’s probability of success. Black Belts typically work under the guidance of the organization’s Process Improvement Department and are charged with working on only the most complex projects or KAIZEN events. Black Belts should be well known to the organization’s leadership and are critical for deployment and sustainment of a fully operational Lean Six Sigma program. Black Belts are greatly differentiated by their in-depth understanding and mastery of the concepts of Lean, Six Sigma, Project Management, Change Management, facilitation and statistical analysis techniques.
Instructorship for this course is conducted in-person with experienced Master Black Belts.
Lean Six Sigma Master Black Belt Training

Topics include advanced statistical methodologies and theories, coaching, consulting skills, presentation and facilitation skills, executive risk advisory scenarios and several other consultant theories. After completion of the course, the LSS MBB candidate will be assigned an LSS MBB mentor for the teaching requirements. As part of LSS MBB development, candidates will be required to successfully teach all modules of the LSS BB course materials until mastery is observed (minimum of 2 times per module). Candidates will also be required to perform education sessions under the guidance of a Certified LSS MBB to ensure mastery of LSS material and theories are achieved.
Training for LSS MBB certification is rigorous and time consuming, potentially taking years to fully complete. MBBs will spend significant time with all levels of leadership advising on process improvement strategies and risks. LSS MBBs will also serve as coaches and mentors for LSS BBs and GBs on their path to certification and will normally be tasked with the education of higher order belts.
